About Jennie Jacobs:
From a young age, I have always known that helping others was something I envisioned as an integral component of my career. As a Spanish and Secondary Education major at Northeastern University, I realized that my enthusiasm for working with students individually and in small groups outweighed my desire for teaching.
After working for New York State’s Early Intervention Program for several years, I decided to pursue my master’s degree in school counseling at Long Island University. From the first class, I knew I had found my passion. During this time, I had the fortunate opportunity to gain invaluable experience working with students from kindergarten through twelfth grade, focusing on various areas and skill sets within each grade level.
In my fourteen years as a school counselor, working in different public school environments and grade levels, I thoroughly enjoy forming genuine connections with my students and their families. It is through these connections that developing meaningful and positive rapport has created a strong foundation for successful counselor-student relationships.
When I am not working, I cherish the time I spend with family and friends. I am an avid reader, love to learn, whether in the classroom or via authentic experiences such as exploring a new travel destination, and always find a way to incorporate humor into my day!
Approach to therapy
Just as each one of us is unique, an individual approach to therapy is ideal as it allows for each client’s current need(s) to be addressed. I believe in providing a safe, non-judgmental, and empathetic space for clients of all ages as they identify areas in their lives they wish to further explore. I believe that counseling is a process, one in which we work collaboratively to develop strategies and skills to help gain a deeper understanding of one’s thoughts and feelings. I look forward to supporting clients in achieving their personal goals and working toward self-fulfilling actualization.
