NICHOLAS GAROFALO’S APPROACH TO THERAPY
I utilize an Adlerian conceptualization to support clients in overcoming feelings of inferiority so they can overcome obstacles to reach the goals they’ve set for themselves. The use of cognitive behavioral therapeutic interventions allows for clients to better conceptualize the relationship between how our thoughts inform our behaviors. In a session we would emphasize social relationships and the client’s skills or talents as tools to promote goal-oriented behaviors. To me therapy should look like a conversation; a two-sided dialogue. I aim to provide a safe space where clients can feel heard, understood, validated and truly be themselves. Authenticity in the therapeutic alliance as it is an important predictor of successful client outcomes and it is my commitment to display this authenticity in session.
