About Shalaka Gupte

I transitioned from a corporate career to pursue my passion for counseling. I have over 20 years of experience working with children, families, and adults from diverse backgrounds. In the practice, I wear many hats and my role reflects my life experience – I am a clinician, supervisor, and administrator.

I have been with Beautiful Journey Counseling since 2020. My clients include adolescents and adults. While I love working with young clients, I do not work with children directly, rather as a supervisor to the clinicians who work with children. I am also part of the Reproductive & Perinatal Team, and my specialization is working with clients from diverse backgrounds.

As part of my self care, I love to travel and learn about different cultures. I like to stay active, catching a yoga class when possible and trying to walk 10,000 steps a day (trying is the key word!). I have a stack of books that seems to keep growing and as an extravert, a circle of friends that grows as well. I consider myself a lifelong learner, gaining knowledge from reading and people.

Shalaka Gupte’s Approach To Therapy

As a therapist, my first step is to create a safe and honest relationship with you, my client.  From there, using a collaborative approach, we will examine your life from a cultural, holistic, and systems perspective, taking a look at nutrition, sleep, physical health, and social connections. I like to ask about your worldview because we are all a product of our environment and I want to understand your journey. We will work together to determine goals for therapy (sometimes big, sometimes small), and the best way for us to tackle those goals.  I believe my role as a therapist is one of guide and teacher, so I like to empower you with psychoeducation and skills that you can use in all areas of life.
