Founder/Educational Psychologist

ABOUT ALLISON JOHNSON,

I am the founder of Beautiful Journey Counseling®. My graduate training was at Fordham University, where I earned both my doctorate in Educational Psychology and my Masters in Counseling.

I provide supervision to Licensed Associate Counselors and am an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), a certified school counselor, teacher and school administrator.

I live in Bergen County with my husband and four children. I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, running, pilates, and hope to find more time to travel and learn yoga!

ALLISON JOHNSON’S APPROACH TO THERAPY

I believe in providing all clients a safe, warm and supportive environment to express their emotions freely and feel comfortable telling their own unique story.

Throughout the therapeutic process, positive and healthy changes will be implemented and these changes will be focused on the individual’s needs while building upon her strengths. As a solution-focused therapist, my goal is to help you discover your true potential and lead a great life.

I try to bring mental health awareness into the community as often as I can, and I truly hope to help as many individuals as possible. I am a member of the American Counseling Association, American Psychological Association, and Postpartum Support International.

MATERNAL MENTAL HEALTH

I currently have my PMH-C (Perinatal Mental Health Certification) through PSI which strengthens my specialty in Maternal Mental Health, allowing me to work with clients who suffer from infertility, miscarriage, pregnancy issues, traumatic birth, postpartum depression and anxiety and any other prenatal or postpartum stress or concern.

It is my passion to help women overcome challenges during their transition to motherhood right from the very beginning.

I believe that all women would benefit from support in navigating the biggest transition of their adult life and it is my goal to help women find balance and stability as well as redefine their identity during this time.

I plan to offer group therapy to women struggling with conceiving, new moms wanting to connect with others, as well as a breastfeeding support group.

BACKGROUND

My career began as a high school counselor and school administrator (K-12) prior to my transition into Private Practice in 2013. My experience working in the school districts has helped me to connect well with school professionals.

I have a great deal of experience writing 504 Plans as well as working with specialists at the college level to help create accommodation plans for students.

My specialty has been predominantly working with anxiety, relationship issues, coping and stress management, career development and exploration, as well as prenatal and postpartum concerns.
