About Kanella Eby

Kanella Eby is a licensed social worker with both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Social Work, having earned her MSW from Ramapo College in 2024. She is currently working toward her clinical licensure and is experienced in working with children and young adults in a school-based setting. Kanella has experience working in two special education schools. In this role, she has worked closely with special education students, as well as students experiencing school refusal and school-related anxiety. She typically uses a strengths-based approach and incorporates evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), helping clients build practical skills while recognizing their existing strengths and resilience.

Kanella Eby's Approach To Therapy

I believe therapy is a space where clients feel both supported and validated while learning practical skills to manage life’s challenges. I recognize that seeking therapy requires vulnerability and courage, and I strive to honor that by creating a safe, respectful, and collaborative environment. I strive to meet each client where they are, move at a pace that feels comfortable, and collaborate on goals that feel meaningful.

Additionally, I believe therapy works best when clients feel supported and truly understood. I take a strengths-based approach, focusing on the skills, resilience, and resources each person already has, while also helping them build new tools along the way. I often use techniques from CBT and DBT to help clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and to develop practical coping skills they can use in everyday life.
My background in a school setting has shaped the way I work, especially with children and adolescents. I have experience supporting students in special education, as well as those struggling with school anxiety and school refusal, and I understand how overwhelming these challenges can feel for both clients and their families.
Above all, I aim to create a warm, welcoming space where clients feel empowered to show up as themselves, build confidence, and work toward positive, lasting change.
