ABOUT MARIA FAGAN,
I love to create a space that feels warm and safe for children which in turn allows them to activate their imaginations to make the experience of learning emotions and self regulation skills a positive one.I have served in education for sixteen years; as a teacher for six and as a school counselor for ten. As a current kindergarten-second grade school counselor, I continue to be amazed on how capable children are with developing skills once their needs are established and understood.I have a deep rooted appreciation and fascination for the ‘glowing and growing mind’ of a child.
APPROACH TO THERAPY
I truly believe in the home to school connection and although therapeutic work has invaluable potential, the drive for change and the need for supporting developing skills in a child is one that requires open minds and hearts from all surrounding support systems. I enjoy navigating this part of the process with children and their grown ups. Most importantly, my ultimate mission as a clinician is to empower children to establish self confidence and self compassion by nurturing the unapologetically emerging, authentic self. My goal is to help children develop positive thinking patterns, assisting them in strengthening coping skills as well as communication skills.
